CUSTOMER REVIEWS
I've read several reviews where the customer couldn't figure out a how to build a track that uses all the pieces included in the set. I believe that I've found a solution and posted pictures in the customer photo upload area. My layout uses all the pieces, and it also enables the train to complete a circuit around the track and hit all of the SmartPoints without manual intervention.I have a 3 year-old son who loves this train. He is able to turn the crank to help the train up the ramp just fine. The train is able to turn corners, and does not get stuck on any track pieces (maybe other reviewers got lemons?). I think that this set is well worth the price, and is a lot of fun to build.I don't think that a 1-2 year old would be able to build the tracks, but they would probably have fun pushing the train around the track or watching it move on its own. It is possible to disengage the motor by pushing the button in the smokestack (therefore making it a push toy). Similarly, if your train isn't moving, push the button again to re-engage the motor to have the train run the tracks on its own.My 3 year-old doesn't have the patience to put together the track on his own yet, but I'm hoping that he will when he gets older. My only criticisms of this set are that the instructions could provide better diagrams for the various track configurations, and that they should include a few more red curved directional pieces (the ones that insert into the orange cross track pieces). The diagrams for the track layouts are a bit difficult to read, and the photos included in the manual are way too small to see all the details. Even so, it's not rocket science to figure out how to build a track configuration that will work.I may order a few more red pieces from vtech's website (under "Customer Support", go to "Order replacement parts"): vtechkids.comFor those of you who have misplaced the manual, it's also online at the vtech's website (search for "go go train" and you will see a tab for downloading the manual PDF file)

The first three weeks of this train set I could have easily given it a 5 star review. My 18 month old son loves this and it has been his go-to toy that keeps him occupied longer than any other toy we had gotten him before. I was extremely disappointed when his motorized train stopped working properly. The train gets stuck on the indents in the track and can no longer go around the corners. I thought it might need new batteries, but it still gets stuck. I can't believe that the train can't stand three short weeks of use and no, he hasn't thrown it or even dropped it. I emailed Vtech to see about getting a replacement since it was already too late to return it to amazon. Their response was a short email telling me that they have a replacements parts section somewhere on their website. I just assumed that since I was given a faulty product that I shouldn't have to buy another train for $12 and then another $7 for shipping. I had plans of buying more Go! Go! products to add to this train set and won't now because I don't expect any of their other products to last longer than a couple weeks. I would have still given this train set a five star review if I had gotten a better response from Vtech customer service.

I bought this for my son who is a young 2. He's a very busy little boy and gets bored easily of most toys. This set was easy to assemble, seems pretty durable, and is really cute. My son engaged in it quickly and has played with this toy longer than I've ever seen him play with any of his others. As another reviewer wrote, there is a hill that requires you to hand crank - my son picked up on this pretty quickly and it has added that much more interest to his play. The way the the track configures you can choose to send the train up the hill or under the tunnel, so if your child can't hand crank yet, don't worry they can still use this toy and have time to grow into it.My son loves that the train moves on it's own, it's different than the other push trains he has. He does at times try to push it, it's held up so far, but I hope this doesn't break it. The other Go Go Smart Wheels sets can attach to this set, and there are lots of different ways to assemble for lots of variation and fun!The reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 (really minimal in the scheme of things) is that the track configurations are kind of tricky. They give you a cheat sheet on how and where pieces go. At this point I can't use all the pieces without using their sheet. Now the dilemma we have is that the sheet has been misplaced. In my chaotic world of a 2 year old, this seems to happen a lot - you think I would have figured out a better system or safer place by now, but I haven't. I went to V-tech's site but can't find a downloadable manual online. I did email them so I'm hoping that I will get another chance to find a safer home for this guide and prove myself responsible. My only other complaint (again minimal, but the real reason for 4 stars) is that the track comes with a number of pieces open on 4 sides. You use these to connect track pieces that might otherwise not fit together, and to make cross sections. The problem is that when these go on a corner (common placement) the train runs off them. As a fix V-tech includes a piece that snaps on and redirects the train - saving the day. They really needed to include 2 of these pieces. The train can't use half of the route you see configured on the box because it would need 2 of these pieces to stay on the track. Same story for some of the other configurations. It seems like such an easy thing - on additional piece would offer lots of extra play options. None of the other play sets I've seen come with this piece and you can't order an extra online. I did email and ask if I could purchase one. I'm not expecting that I can, but it never hurts to ask!
