CUSTOMER REVIEWS
We love love love these books. I love that my kids are "reading" books and learning and they love that they are interacting with the iPad so and directing their learning. So much information and interactive content - can keep your children entertained and learning for hours. I can't recommend these products enough!

We are big fans of high-tech learning products, and have purchased a lot for children and grandchildren. We were optimistic with respect to this particular product, but our optimism soured after actually trying the product.Fundamentally, the product is a children's book. The phrases are short and simple, and suitable for digestion by the 4-6-year-old set. The book has six pages, each with a simple "I am a..." phrase. The "magic" takes place when the book is coupled with an iPad 2 or later, or an iPad Mini 1 or later. The iPad application from Link4fun includes all sorts of educational extras associated with each page. In fairness to the book, the extras are the real value of the book. The problem is that the book needs to stand on its own, unless the iPad belongs to the child. Otherwise, mom or dad's iPad ends up being connected to the book. Then there are the child prints, and the time the child insisted on having a drink at the same time they are working with the book (after all, dad can drink when he reads, so I should be able to drink as well) and, as seems to be inevitable when multiple things are on the same table, the drink ends up at least partially on the iPad; instant disaster. We have purchased a book reading device for our grandchildren last Christmas, one of the Me Readers, that is a stand alone product that the grandchildren grasped how to use quickly. If a cup of drink ends up on the Me Reader, well, unfortunate, but hardly on the scale of losing an iPad. It is true that the Link4Fun Pets book has lots more educational stuff associated with the book, but the grandkids did not seem interested in the education aspects, and seemed to get bored pretty quickly.Which leads us to wondering why the book is needed at all. Why not just put the book and all its educational features into an application that can be directly downloaded onto the iPad? Our children and grandchildren like books. They grasped the concept of turning pages and they grasped that the words had meaning - though the reading part came quite a bit later, of course. It is difficult to replace the value of books with a device that is not quite a book, and not quite an application, especially when the combination is not very intuitive to a 3 or 4-year-old.We were excited when we saw this product. However, our enthusiasm was dampened by the actual product. It may be that this product is a good fit with some children, but our opinion is that there are other products that are a better fit with most 3-6-year-olds. Thus, our three-star rating is because we compared this book with other electronic readers that are intended for a similar age group, and we think those electronic readers are easier to learn how to use and ultimately more cost effective since they do not require an iPad.Good luck!

Disappointing product. For some reason the app took forever to download, I thought it was my connection but I restarted my (new) ipad and other apps I was downloading at the same time did not have this problem. The book itself is pretty boring and every page just tells you the name of the pet "Hi, I am a cat" "Hi I am a bird" and all it does with the ipad is that when the page is turned, the app changes its focus to whatever animal is on the page of the book. It is strange that part of the description for the product says "turning real book pages for better gross motor skill building then just tapping a screen" when in fact all you are doing is just turning the page with one sentence on it, I don't see how that would improve my toddler's gross motor skills. Everything else is controlled via the ipad which makes the book quite pointless (in my opinion). We have had interactive books that work very well with the ipad (for example, " the fantastic flying books of mr morris lessmore") and we LOVE osmoTo be fair, the app itself is quite informative and interesting. However there are plenty more apps around that are equally if not more informative, interesting and educational. This is a great concept and we are huge fans of this reality-virtual reality movement but this product just doesn't cut it.

Wow...was skeptical about how this would work, but it works great. Upon opening the book, there were very few pages and very few words on each page (which is good for a preschooler learning to read). I placed the iPad in the appropriate place, downloaded the app, and my preschooler and I began reading. On each page of the app, there is content about the animal/pet including habitat, food, pictures, video, and more. Some of the content, like the food one, is interactive. Some content is more passive, like the habitat, it's about 3 paragraphs long; informative, but just text. Also included in the content is a short video of each animal/pet and a space for you/your child to upload your own pictures of the animal/pet. One of the neat features is that when you turn the physical page of the book, the app knows it and "turns its page" too. One area of improvement would be more content and pages. Even though there is quite a bit of content per page, it feels like we get through it too quickly and leaves us wanting more. The only piece of info you really need to know is that my preschooler has asked to "read" this book multiple times since receiving it. He enjoys the book but the enhanced content via the iPad makes this a winner.

Really good idea and concept but has one major flaw, the iPad has to stay in one spot and never move. We had a lot of issues where simply changing the page of the book jarred a half inch and we're suddenly looking at cat information for a dog.Another smaller issue, to me at least, is no cases on your iPad, they have to be removed. Unfortunately this is our youngest ones iPad so protection is critical, removing the case every time we want to use this is very tedious. As I mentioned, the idea and concept is great. You download an app and leveraging the iPad compass, it can recognize when the page is turned on the both. Al using the iPad, you can learn a bunch about each animal - anything from what they eat to what sounds they make.Overall if the adult is controlling this it works well, otherwise your kid needs to be very very careful to not move it. Would love to see a version two of this where the iPad attaches to the book.

Mr. Cookie Baker

Penguin. 2006 gbs preview - Stages Learning Materials Link4fun Animals Book Set for Preschool Vocabulary and Reading on iPad Interactive Learning Toy for Kids 3 Books + Free App

As sweet and satisfying as holiday baking, here is a beautiful update of Monica Wellington's Mr. Cookie Baker. In this book, youngsters can follow the process of measuring, mixing, baking, decorating, and eating cookies. With six new full-color pages, a handsome new jacket, educational tie-ins, and more recipes, this is the perfect supplement to early math units on sequencing, sorting, measuring, and telling time. The simple, straightforward behind-the-scenes view of a bakery makes it a splendid addition to Monica Wellington's other nonfiction for the very young, such as Zinnia's Flower Garden. Yummy in any season!
